9 EPIC Airports You Should Know About (Bucket List!)
Here are several epic airports that you might not yet know about. I've been to several of them myself but then some of them I also learned about through posting on Reddit asking for lesser-known, epic airports! Leave me a comment and let me know what other airports you'd like to see on here and I'll probably make a part 2!

Turboprop Torque, ITT, NP, and %NG Explained (in Plain English)
Просмотров 19 тыс.День назад
I recently got checked out in a Kodiak 100, a 750hp turboprop bush airplane, and it was a blast! This was my first turboprop experience and so I had to learn a lot of new terms and concepts in order to fly this airplane, and I wanted to share what I learned here in case it might help anyone else. It might seem confusing at first but I promise with some practice and repetition, it gets WAY easie...

BIG Differences Flying a Turboprop vs. Piston Aircraft
Просмотров 97 тыс.Месяц назад
I recently got checked out in a turboprop (Kodiak 100) for the first time. In some ways it's similar to a piston aircraft, and in a lot of ways it's quite different. In this video I wanted to showcase the main differences that stuck out to me, the new terminology and concepts I learned, and how that plays out throughout the flight from startup through landing. Why GA Airplanes Crash - The Real Truth and Stats You Need to Know
Просмотров 36 тыс.2 месяца назад
I wanted to cover the stats behind general aviation crashes to hopefully have a practical discussion about safety. I'm all for reviewing incidents and learning from them, but I worry that some viewers might accidentally think that aviation is more dangerous than it really is, or misunderstand the real reasons for accidents. It's a real risk and one that we need to take seriously, but I don't wa...
Best all-around plane? Here's one of them… (and why)
Просмотров 11 тыс.2 месяца назад
I believe the Cessna 182 is still one of the best all-around general aviation airplanes you can buy. It has a great combination of capability and affordability (relative to other airplanes, at least) that I think is hard to beat. It might not win in any one category, but it's one of the few airplanes that can truly do a little bit of everything. And for that reason, I think a Cessna 182 is alwa...

Do you have a video on ways to make money with your plane even if you don’t fly? I want to get a plane and rent it out to a flight school or something. And maybe I could learn to fly it through the flight school. Is that practical? Are there other more practical or financially better ways to make money with it.

Catalina Island California. KAVX 26 miles off the coast from L.A. 3000' Runway ends at both ends with a dropoff to the ocean 1600 feet below. Go for the landings and stay for the Buffalo Burgers, right at the airport.

I flew my first solo in a Piper Cherokee when I was 16 years old, before I could drive a car and I fell in love with aviation. Life intervened and I lost sight of my goals and went down another track, not involving flying. Well, I'm now 55 just passed my PPL-A review (check-ride), found a great CFI and I'm well on my way to my commercial licence. I forgot the joy I felt when I was flying. I rediscovered my joy, and I'm not looking back.

Great list to start from. I've been to a few of them. Johnson Creek is otherworldly and definitely something to behold. Oh - and I've also been to Beaumont KS. You definitely taxi right down the street. There's only about 200 people that live in the very small town. The lodge is great - however it is straight up legit haunted. The stories the staff tell of things they have seen are super spooky. You can camp outside w/ your plane rather than stay in the lodge as well.

I can confirm that you do taxi on the public road at Beaumont (07S). In addition, if you do not stop at the stop sign, you are subject to getting a ticket just as you would in a vehicle. Beaumont also has a Twin Beech D18 parked near the hotel that was used by Barry Seal for some of the activities highlighted by the movie "American Made"

Search for "Cheat river flyin". It's an awesome private airport (West Virginia). The owner hosts a couple of fly-ins each year. You should REALLY do an episode about the flyin/him. He provides ALL THE FOOD AND DRINKS to everyone for free. Next one is 11th of May. He even gave away free t-shirts to all pilots/co-pilots that flew in. I can't imagine how much just the food and drinks cost him each flyin. My dad and I went there last year (from Norway).

And English speaking average people like You Might Not Know what the word epic means. So I will write you now this: It means 1. heroic, long, grand, monumental, vast, Homeric, Miltonian, lofty, grandiloquent, high-flown, high-sounding, extravagant, bombastic. 2. ambitious, heroic, , grand, arduous, extraordinary, Herculean, very long, very large, huge, monumental. So many of your airports are not huge, long, grand, monumental, bombastic, heroic, very long, very large, nor huge. You should use the simple word "extraordinary" or similar in future. 😀

Jasper National Park in Jasper Alberta has an excellent 3000 ft grass strip (Jasper CYJA). Cab or tour company will pick you up. White water rafting, boat tours in high mountain lakes (see the Hall of the Gods), glacier tours, camping, hotels, etc. My family and I landed in our Arrow IV and stayed a few days. Tie down only $5. 100LL fuel available 65NM away in Edson. Breath taking views with a wide valley and straight approaches. It was perfect for my first trip in the mountains.

You could do a list of Resort Towns. Sunriver in Oregon (S21) and Sun Valley in ID (SUN) come to mind. On theme with this video (but maybe more mid-tier) would be Nahalem Bay State Park (3S7) with a really cool approach/departure over the water into a campground. There's also Ranger Creek (21W) in WA which I'd call the Johnson Creek of WA. In Oregon you can also do an orbit around Crater Lake Ntln Park before hopping up to Crescent Lake (5S2) which is a cool little paved mountain runway, but with an absolutely _sick_ departure through the trees and over the water.

Plum island (2b2) is the oldest airport in New England and is a major bucket list for a lot of pilots. And Hampton Airfield (7B3) is an airport with the restaurant directly on the field. The food is good and worth the flight in. Beaumont (07S) has Okay food. It’s nothing to write home about, but isn’t bad.
